Jeff Mills

Born in Detroit in 1963, Jeff Mills first made his name on local radio as the Wizard, with nightly shows at WDRQ and WJLB. In the late eighties he co-founded Underground Resistance with Mike Banks and Robert Hood, then left in the early nineties for residencies at the Limelight in New York and Tresor in Berlin. In 1992 he and Hood set up Axis, later adding Purpose Maker and Tomorrow, homes for his stripped, minimal techno. His three-deck sets with a Roland TR-909, captured on Live at the Liquid Room, Tokyo, remain a benchmark. Beyond the club he has scored Fritz Lang's Metropolis, performed with the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra and held a residency at the Louvre, and in 2017 he received France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
